The Pacific Locomotive Association/Niles Canyon Railway 4th of July Picnic

As a member of the Pacific Locomotive Association (PLA), I spent this Fourth of July riding the Niles Canyon Railway with friends and enjoying the amazing members’ picnic feast provided at the Sunol Depot Gardens.

If you love vintage trains, you’ll love the Niles Canyon Railway: http://www.ncry.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=541047&module_id=132166. And they need all sorts of volunteers to keep their railroad running. Check out their website.  (Photos below taken by Laurel Anne Hill, author of “The Engine Woman’s Light.”)

Laurel Anne Hill: Meet me at the Fair (The San Mateo County Fair, that is.)

Here is the Literary Stage schedule for the upcoming San Mateo County Fair, which runs from June 10 to 18. Note that I’ll interview Bardi Rosman Koodrin at her book launch on June 10. On June 11, I’ll participate in the Editors’ Panel and “one-on-one” writing consults. I’ll lead the art activity “Create Your Own Space Alien” on June 12. On June 15, I’ll give a workshop about writing from the heart and the pit of the stomach. On June 17, I’m organizing the annual Author Day. Please note that I’ll be present (except for June 16 and the evening of June 14) when there are activities on the Literary Stage–unless I drop from exhaustion.

SO, what would have happened if the Brits won the War of 1812? Well, actually – they kind of did. Research before you write alternatives to the wrong history. What’s Greek Fire? Or fusion vs fission? The Schwarzschild radius? The Great Californian Mulberry Collapse? Find out before you write your foot into your mouth. Research matters – Also, someone may have thought of your idea before you.
