Call for Submissions: DEEP CUTS ANTHOLOGY Looking for Short Horror Stories

DEEP CUTS ANTHOLOGY HONORS WOMEN IN HORROR

For submission guidelines, go to: http://deepcuts111.com/.  The submission deadline is August 31, 2012.

For kickstarter donation information, go to:  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/422790332/deep-cuts-anthology.  The pledge deadline is July 1, 2012.

Co-editors E.S. Magill, Angel Leigh McCoy, and Chris Marrs have put out a call for submissions and for Kickstarter pledges for DEEP CUTS, an anthology of short horror stories designed to celebrate Women in Horror Month, February 2013. Both men and women may submit stories to the anthology, but they will each be required to also submit a 150-word recommendation for a short horror story written by a woman writer. The submission deadline is 8/31/12.

The editors are doing a Kickstarter fundraiser to raise enough money to pay greater than professional rates to all writers on the project. The goal is $5000 and the end date for pledges is 7/1/12.

The three spotlight writers invited to the anthology are Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, and Mehitobel Wilson. Lisa Morton will write the Introduction.

NANCY HOLDER
Nancy Holder is a New York Times Bestselling author. Her work has appeared on the New York Times, USA Today, LA Times, amazon.com, LOCUS, and other bestseller lists. A five-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers Association, she has also received accolades from the American Library Association, the American Reading Association, the New York Public Library, and Romantic Times. She has sold many novels set in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Saving Grace, Hellboy, and Smallville universes.

YVONNE NAVARRO
Yvonne Navarro is the author of twenty-two published novels and well over a hundred short stories, and has written about everything from vampires to psychologically disturbed husbands to the end of the world. Her work has won the HWA’s Bram Stoker Award™ plus a number of other writing awards.

MEHITOBEL WILSON
Mehitobel Wilson has been nominated for a Bram Stoker Award™. In addition, she received an Honorable Mention in the Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror five years in a row. Her work is featured in Sins of the Sirens, a Dark Arts book.

LISA MORTON
Lisa Morton is an award-winning author, screenwriter, and producer. She plays an integral role in the horror community as Vice President of the Horror Writers Association. In addition to her accomplishments and accolades, Lisa is also well-known for being a champion of women writers in the horror genre. Her most recent works is the graphic novel Witch Hunts: A Graphic History of the Burning Times, written with Rocky Wood and Greg Chapman, published by McFarland.

Laurel Anne Hill, Author of “Heroes Arise,” Interviewed by MK McClintock

My novel, “Heroes Arise” turns five years old this year and has received some recent publicity.  Please help me celebrate my book’s birthday and also spread the word in the following ways:

Visit the MK McClintock Blog and share the link with others.  MK recently interviewed me and posted that interview on June 13.  The link is http://mkmcclintock.blogspot.com/2012/06/heroes-arise-interview-with-author.html.  Feel free to post a comment.

View my new book trailer celebrating “Heroes Arise” on YouTube and share the link with others.  Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXqXLOecKlU.

If you’ve read “Heroes Arise,” leave a comment about the book on Amazon.  Did “Heroes Arise” engage you in the story?  Did the characters come alive on the page?  Inspire you to reflect upon your own life?  No need to write a long complicated review.  A couple sentences will do.  Go to http://www.amazon.com/Heroes-Arise-Laurel-Anne-Hill/dp/0977208141.

Haven’t read “Heroes Arise” yet?  Buy a copy on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Heroes-Arise-Laurel-Anne-Hill/dp/0977208141) or Barnes and Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/heroes-arise-laurel-anne-hill/1100309886).

Thank you for your support.  Have a great day!

Warm wishes,

Holy Snakes! Laurel Anne Hill Meets New Friends at BayCon 2012 and the San Mateo County Fair

Laurel and David meet a new friend from Burma at the San Mateo County Fair

I so enjoy meet-and-greet events.  How delightful to chat with new friends.  No surprise, the way that cute, furry gray-and-white being rubbed noses with me at BayCon over the Memorial Day weekend.  At science fiction/fantasy conventions, outgoing folks wander the hallways, conference rooms and party suites.  But I never anticipated the unusual new friends David and I would meet at the San Mateo County Fair on June 11.  One gentleman was tall, thin and muscular.  From Burma, I believe.  Another guy was really into forest preservation.  A space alien even showed up to serve as a model during my “create your own space alien” arts-and-crafts workshop for kids.  Interesting to talk with, those chaps.  Too bad David and I can’t recall their names.

I still have more San Mateo County Fair events on Saturday, June 16, in Expo Hall at the Literary Arts Stage.  At 1-2 pm I’ll host readings of science fiction, fantasy, horror and thrillers.  I’ll participate in a book-signing from 2-4 pm, then serve on a podcasting and book trailer panel from 4-5 pm.  I hope to see some of you there, even if you’re from planet earth.

Horror Takes No Holidays: 2012 Wicked Women Writers Challenge Assignments

This morning I stepped up to my talking fortune-telling calendar and asked the big question.  Will the 2012 Wicked Women Writers Challenge be a success?  Then I pressed the two answer-request buttons.

“Your heart’s desire is manifesting as we speak,” said Carma the Wise.

“You’re in luck,” Dr. Fortune agreed.

Carma and Dr. Fortune don’t always hand out such positive predictions.  Needless to say, their comments made my day.  WICKED WOMEN WRITERS ROCK, and even my wall calendar knows it.
